Is the Dolphin M5 Supreme exactly the same as the M500?

Hi All,

Thank you for your help on models - much appreciated.

I'm looking to buy in Turkey and one of the shops I'm looking in has a dolphin M5 Supreme.

Another shop has an M500.

I'm being offered the same price on both so wanted to know if they are EXACTLY the same or is one of the models missing some of the features or is one an older model without connectivity/remote etc. etc.?

Thanks for your help and advice!

Thanks Tim,
That's what my research is pointing to.
The obvious difference that I can seem to see in the marketing hype is that the newer M500 has the ability to connect with Bluetooth and the phone app.
Am I right to think that you cannot do this with your M5?
Thanks Tim!

Nope, no Bluetooth.

But, with that being said after the first month or two even the remote is not needed in our case. All of the bells and whistles are just fluff we didn't end up using. It's in the water most of the pool season and each morning I just go out and push the button. Sometimes I start it a second time in the afternoon. It cleans for 3 hours and shuts off. Every day or two I pull it out of the water and swap cartridges (I bought an extra set) and clean the ones that were in the water.

Thanks for your response Tim.

Your information is very helpful as many people use M5/M500 interchangeably as if they are both the same. It appears that they are not identical.

I'm sure you're right though that there is not much useful difference in practice. The one thing I can think of is that if the remote is useful to someone, it could be useful to have bluetooth in the event the remote gets lost - saving the need to buy a replacement remote.

In reality, I'm sure most people end up using the basic programs like you have ended up doing.

Functionally they are the same, everything minus Bluetooth as far as I know. I use e remote features on my M5 still today as much as ever. I like the delay, manual driving, and the different cleaning modes. Ife had great service from mine, and recently done a pretty extensive refurbish of wear parts on mine after 3 very tough seasons.

Hi Patrick,
Very many thanks for your helpful response. It looks like the Bluetooth is the difference between the M5 and the M500.

The shop I went to (in Turkey) spent a long time trying to tell me that the two models were EXACTLY the same and that only the name had changed but it doesn't seem like this was right (as suspected). As it happens, the difference is minor but I like to know what I'm buying.

I'll let everyone know how I get on in due course! :)

If anyone knows of any other differences that could help other potential purchasers, do add to the thread.

Being honest, I think you'd like using the remote better anyway. Its always right there, easy to turn on and use. No phone near the water, or thumbing through to find and open the app. Save perhaps some timers or scheduling advantages, Im thinking the remote is more than adequate.

Thanks Patrick - I suspect you are right that the remote is easier in general.

Given that we seem to have identified that it's only the Bluetooth that differentiates the M5 and M500, it most likely comes down to price for people to decide between the two models. Should the price increase on the M500 be small, it probably makes sense to give the option of phone based control but in most cases, the M5 is probably just as good a choice.
