Recently layed off work and trying to save some $. Need a new pool heater prior to Spring startup. I am handy around the house. I've replaced our water heater, replaced my car radiator very comfortable with electrical work and piping. But before I attempt to replace our water heater, I wanted to ask those with experience if there should be any concern. It seems straightforward. Turn off the gas, disconnect current gas line, disconnect the water inlet/outlet and disconnect the electrical connection to the control box. Then install new unit, according to instructions. New unit is 16K BTU more than our old one but our gas company confirmed our meter is fine. Any recommendations, things to watch out for or potential gotchas is much appreciated. If its too complex I'll hire our pool contractor to do it but I know that will be expensive. One difference between old and new heater is the old one was a mechanical dial to adjust heat output but the on/off and pool temp monitor is controlled from the pentair easy-touch panel. The new heater I'm looking at is digital control.

DIY will likely change the warranty period and also depends on if you need a permit from your municipality.
