Is my water toast?

I've been using chlorine tablets and Arm & Hammer Clear Balance tablets in my pool for years until I recently learned how harmful they are when reading this site. I splurged for the TF-Pro test kit and just ran my first test... to horrible results:

FC - 0ppm
pH - 7.2
Alk - 330ppm
Calcium - ~1,500ppm I stopped counting drops after a while
CYA - off the charts. I my solution didn't even reach half-way to the 100 mark before I couldn't see the black dot.

I attached a picture of the white buildup that is happening along all the edges as well (calcium?). Is my water beyond all hope and I should drain and start again?

Welcome to TFP!

Unfortunately, my answer is also yes. The CYA would require replacing probably 80% of your water, but that calcium level is untenable. Unless you happen to have almost no calcium in your fill water it's going to require a complete replacement or (if available) RO treatment which is very expensive.

There is a method to do a diluted test to extend the range...but its really not worth it given the CH.

Do you have some details on the pool, size, construction type etc ? While it may not change the immediate solution, it may help with future recommendations specific to your particular setup.

Test your fill water’s ta,ph, & ch
so you know what you’re working with and record those results somewhere.
& Have a look at 👇
to come up with a plan to safely exchange your water without compromising your pool shell.
If you have questions along the way just ask!
You’re here now & have the proper tools to move forward that’s what matters 😊
