Greetings,

My Hayward t-9 is entering year 7 and I am now beginning to get lower then expected salt readings. The generator is reading 2200 and my taylor test shows 4000. When I turn off the pump and turn it back on again it reads 3400 (probably correct numbers) then goes back to 2200 over a period of hours. I cleaned the salt cell and still having the problem.

My question is 2 fold -

1.) is this a sign the SWG is failing and needs to be replaced ?
2.) when replacing, I want to use a Hayward product and get the next size up (equivalent of a T-15). I can get one fairly quickly on amazon. Is there a big difference between the W3T models and the 940S models ? It looks like the W3T models are the majority of what I can find online. The 940S is described as the "extended life" cell but not sure that this completely matters. Any thoughts on this ?

It is a sign the cell is getting depleted.

You can run it till it dies or replace it at your convenience.

Extended life is supposed to have stronger plates and last longer. YMMV.

Thanks. Followup question. The cell continues to run. As I review replacement options, can I get it to keep working by every morning setting the instant salt to the correct level (since it initially reads correct?)

It will work as long as it works.

Hello,
So it looks like my Hayward SWG is starting to fail (year 7). I am in the market for replacement and was looking on some advice about Hayward replacement cells. What I have found is the only cells that can be purchased online are the W3T cell models. These appear to all have 3 year warranties. To get the "extended-life" versions (T-cell-940) it looks like you have to go through a dealer for several hundred dollars more but you get a 4 year warranty. Is my research correct or is there another option for buying the "extended-life" versions ? Also, not sure there is much difference as many here have said the extended life versions don't really make much difference. Trying to get the best value for the manufacturer product (I do not want to take a chance on a 3rd party replacement cell). Any thoughts ?

Also, a question about warranty. I'm buying on Amazon. Does the hayward include warranty coverage if purchased as "sold by amazon" on amazon. It seems like amazon is an authorized dealer but want to make sure I get 3 year warranty if I buy through amazon
