Have a more than 10-year-old rooftop solar heater system, and hasn't run it for several seasons due to leaking. Recently I have started to think of repairing it. Ran it and found the following problems;
1) 4 or 5 Fafco collector panels (4'x10'x12") leak (9 in total), highly suspect racoons or squirrels bite them or the rubber is too old, they need to be replaced
2) Several valve stem O-rings leak, need to replace
3) some pipes have turned white, need to be repainted to black.
Pipes and valves seem all work properly.
Consulted a contractor who said it took $6000 to repair, which is a big money for me. I wonder if it can be DIYed within an economic budget. Will the repair require special equipment and tools, and whether if it includes any dangerous part or would damage something if not done correctly. Any online resources to explain how to do this job?
If answers go negative I'd have to find a contractor to do it.
Thanks.
