Hi,
I had installed the Circupool Core at my pool in 2020. I was attracted to them due to their warranty for DIY install. The salt cell started malfunctioning in 2023 and I had to replace the cell under warranty by paying 40% of the market price.

I tried taking the cell out today to clean it and was shocked to find that the electrodes are broken. Half of the salt cell is stuck inside the casing. I am attaching some photos below.

I am sure they will "honor" their warranty and send me another salt cell and have me pay 60% of the cost of the cell.

This is a time for me to evaluate if I want to continue with Circupool or move to another brand of SWG. If so, which one is recommended for price, reliability and ease of installation.

The RJ plus line is more robust, but evenso your damage is rarely reported.

Got test results ? We need to work on your scaling fouling up the cell going forward.

I’ve had a circupool model for the same time frame and have never needed to clean it. You need to figure out what in your water is scaling it up.

THank you for the responses. Since they replaced the Salt Water Cell 14 months ago, they were kind enough to send me a replacement for free.

I fully agree on customer service, but am not sure if the Salt Water cells failing ~3 years is the sign of a solid product.

Regarding pool chemistry. I check it once a week and my pool tends to be higher on pH. I try to balance it with phDown or Muriatic acid.

The hardness is always high and am not sure what to do about it.

It's likely that your CSI is out of the recommended range of -.3 to 0 so that is probably the underlying cause. That is contributed to by the CH that you say is pretty high. CH can only be reduced by water draining. To avoid CH in the future, assuming it's naturally in your water supply, is to use soft water to top your levels off once the pool has been refilled. Otherwise you need to periodically monitor the CH to determine when you need to drain some water off.

pH down is sodium bissulfate, aka dry acid. The sulfates that come from that will destroy an SWG is short order. Most SWG manufacturers clearly state in their manuals NOT to use dry acid.

I live in the southern desert with very hard water and I have never had the build up of scale that I’m seeing in your pictures. You need to manage your water chemistry and specifically the CSI (calcite saturation index) so that it is slightly negative (-0.3 to 0). Scale build up along with sulfate exposure can cause a lot of damage.

Different manufacturer, same result…..Poor chemistry will kill a cell…..period. I took over this account after years of neglect by others and somehow saved the cell for the time being. Get your chemistry right….You’re not dealing with a manufacturing issue.
