Is a small 3000 gal fiberglass above ground pool too small for a chlorine generator?

I have not personally used any of the SWGs, however Intex would probably be my last choice. They are harder to find parts for and may only last a season or two. Amazon has other brands of SWGs but I'm not familiar with those brands, but they all run between $190.00 - $300.00 If you plan to be using this pool for many years you may want to consider investing in a more common name brand SWG, such as a Hayward or Pentair, but they will cost around $1000 and up. Hopefully some above ground pool users will chime in with their recommendations.
 
We always suggest one that’s rated for at least 2x’s your pool’s volume- in the southern US bigger is usually better. A 15k or 20k gal rated unit would be a good fit.
Do you have a variable speed, 2 speed, or single speed pump?
 
With a 3,000 gal. pool, either a 15k or 20k gal rated unit would be rated more than the pool. Any experience about which brand has the best units that will last the longest? In today's word, you can buy a piece of equipment which will break in a couple of years. I would rather pay more and buy a unit which will last.

Here is some information on different brands. It is from a retailer so they are focused on products they sell, but these are all name brand products with a long track record. It gives warranty information and links to customer reviews on their website.
 
I have a Pentair IC40 SWCG (rated for a 40K pool) for our 6000 gallon pool. Works great. With automation I can use more precise generation settings.

With a single speed pump, how long each day do you run the pump? Is the spa left uncovered?

If cost is a concern Intex has a decent product. It’s not adjustable and has a tendency to corrode on internal connections. There’s an actual repairs/fix on this site that works. It would be best to use it as preventative maintenance during the off season.

Mine went belly up this year after two seasons. I purchased another and planned to use the inoperable one for parts. I then found the information here and fixed the old one. Still holding on to it just in case.

I guess I misread- I thought it said 6k gal pool in your original post.
What is your budget?

They really aren’t bad units for the price now that prices are back to normalish.
