Hi
New to pool ownership, I have some experience maintaining pools from lifeguard days of my youth ( long since passed).
Just moved into a house w/ 16x32 lined in ground pool. Previous owner tarped( poorly) and it was full of indigenous aquatic critters, bugs, etc.
Pumped it out - removed probably 20 bushels of leaves.
Rinsed, and am now filling( < than 24 hrs from start of pumping/ cleaning to filling). H2O very hard in KY so will look to non Ca shock once filled. Looking forward to learning from this forum!

Cool name Aquaman!

Read the links Marty posted, especially the one on recommended chemicals. Your other options for a solid forms of chlorine are trichlor and dichlor "shock". These add CYA (chlorine stabilizer) and regular use will cause high CYA levels and you'll end up draining water to get rid of it. We recommend liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorine generator (SWG or SWCG).

Best wishes...see you around!
