Into the clouds...

Hi there,

I've been trying to clear up my cloudy pool for 2 weeks now...my head is spinning and would really appreciate some help in clearing it up. Been shocking it over and over. Most recently shocked it 2 days ago (before this test) with 4 gallons of liquid Cl. My filters are new and I ran them 24/7.

I finally bought a solid testing kit: Taylor 2005 (waiting on the 2006, but in the meantime...)

The pool test stats:
18,000 gallon vinyl semi in-ground pool, no run off issues. Long Island, NY.
  1. Combined Chlorine: 2
  2. Free Chlorine: 2
  3. pH: 7.8
  4. Total Alkalinity : 120ppm
  5. Calcium Hardness: 160ppm
  6. Cyanuric Acid: 58ppm
  7. Water Temperature: 86 degrees Fahrenheit
  8. Saturation Index: around .275

According to the Pool Math app I should:

  1. Raise Chlorine: Add chlorine bleach 6% - 187oz
  2. Lower pH: Add dry acid - 17oz
  3. Lower Total Alkalinity: Reduce pH to 7.2 and then up it by aerating
  4. Lower CYA: Drain some water and then refill
  5. Raise Calcium Hardness: Add calcium chloride - 373oz
Is there a manner in which I should do all of this or do I just throw the kitchen sink at it and pray / test over and over?
Thank you all so much for any response--I feel so lost!

Welcome to the forum. We do things a little differently here than just dump and pray.

You'll need the proper test kit, and youll need to slam the pool.
