Intex Pool Filter leaking!

I have a brand new filter and it is leaking pretty bad where the pre-filter and the pump housing connect. I have it connected as tight as it will go, there are no cracks. When the pump is running it does not leak but air is getting sucked in and the pre-filter is filling with air. When the pump is off the water leaks out. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Welcome to the forum!
The majority of the time air gets pulled in around the pump basket lid. Check the gasket and be sure to use a generous amount of pool lubricant on it.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Pool School eBook.

Thanks! I will double check the lid but when the pump is off i can see water coming from the connection point of the basket container and the pump housing (not sure if thats the correct verbiage).

Is it coming from the connection (I see some screws) between those two?

I believe it is coming from the connection spot before the screws, closer to the pre-filter. I have a photo here from the site the pre-filter connects onto the pump housing.

Inex said they will send a new pre-filter... although I am not sure if will be any better. Until I get the replacement is it going to hurt the filter to run it with air in it?

Hi Heather - no it will not hurt the filter to run with a bit of air. If anything, the pump motor is what can be damaged if you have air in your system, but it has to be a lot of air, to the point of it losing prime and your pump running dry. You should be fine to run like this for the time being.

Just be sure to bleed the air out once or twice a day if you can (through the air bleeder valve on your filter).

Did you install the o-rings on the pump nose before installing the strainer and ring nut?
