Intex 15ft Round - Manual Vacuum w/out Major Modification

Hi All,
I own a 15 x 48 intex metal frame pool. Liner is vinyl and has two outlets (water to filter) and one inlet (water from filter).

Each outlet uses a strainer connector that pushes through the liner and is attached to a 1 1/4in hose fitting. The strainer has a grid cap that screws on. (See two photos below)

I believe there is a way to use a different cap that would allow a vacuum hose to be connected for manual vacuuming of my pool.

1) is this true?
2) is the cap shown in blue the cap?

I’m open to any other ideas as long as it doesn’t not involve modification to the liner.

Thank you in advance!

Thanks for responding. I have an intex battery powered vacuum that a friend gave me last year. All in all it doesn’t work bad but being so small it takes longer than I’d prefer to clean the pool. Was hoping I could leverage the suction of the sand filter to use a larger vacuum via hose and extending pole

FWIW, when we had our 15' Intex, I bought a battery powered Catfish from the Pool Blaster Max folks and it worked great. Used it for two years in the Intex, then upgraded to a 24" semi-permanent AGP. I continued to use the Catfish for three more years until it finally died for good. It was a little small for the bigger pool (took about 45 minutes to vacuum completely) but, hey, it was paid for.

When it died, I began "leveraging the suction of the sand filter," as you say, for vacuuming. It does a good job, but still takes 45 minutes to vacuum the bigger pool completely. As soon as the supply chain pipeline catches up, I will buy another battery powered one. I liked not having to uncoil a hose, hook everything up, then put it all away (another 20 minutes total) when done. Most importantly, though, the stuff from the bottom of my pool went into the trash, and not into the filter. Less backwashing made me happy and saved a lot of water. Just my $.02 worth.

Whatever you decide, enjoy that pool! :)

I have a 14 ft Bestway pool, similar to an Intex pool. Unless you have at least a 3/4 hp pump, you don't have enough suction to keep a vacuum hooked to the suction side to work. It won't stay stuck on. I know this from experience.

Last year I got a WaterTech Pool Blaster battery operated vacuum, which you hook to a telescoping pole. It works a treat. Here's the link on Amazon:
I highly recommend it. No hoses, no suction connections, just tons of vacuuming power.
