Having an issue with a Intermax PX100, 3 wires on the supply side (14 gauge wires), Black, Yellow, White. 3 Wire 120 supply (12 gauge wires), Black, White, Ground. Hooked Black to Black, White to White, Yellow (capped off), ground from supply attached to ground block.

After connection, applied power, and got 4 volts from one of the output wires (black wire) and 2 volts from the other. Then the transformer started getting hot and smoking!

Have I hooked something up incorrectly or could there be an issue with the transformer?

OP, are you referring to the Intermatic PX100 step down transformer with 2 supply side and no output wires? I have no doubt, you mis-wired the transformer and I don't blame you. Many others had fallen victim to the odd design and lame installation instructions. Perhaps marketing tactics to increase sale, who knows! While others may have succeeded, many had failed to outsmart the vendor by claiming it DOA.

Mysteriously, the wiring diagram for PX300 can be found floating around but nothing for PX100. We can figure out what went wrong and at the same time, you can help others to avoid the same mistake by posting pictures of the transformer, focusing on the label and wiring diagram. TIA
