Intermatic timer will not shut off and Manual switch does not work

I have an Intermatic 104 timer and recently i noticed that it stay on after it was supposed to shut off the pump. the only thing that would shut it off was when I turned off the breaker.
I bought a new Intermatic 104 switch and the problem was the same. wiring was confirmed correct, so what was the problem?
I have a remote lighting system........turns out it has a bypass that will turn the pump on as well as the lights and it had bypassed the Intermatic timer. When I turned off the breaker to the lights, the switch now works.
Has anyone else had this random issue?

Well that is a different problem for sure. Are you saying the timer has never worked that you know of?

Can you post pictures of your setup as well as some (or all) of the wiring?

Sounds like they purposefully wired the pump to run whenever the lights are on.

Does not sound "random" to me, more like it is not wired correctly, or as Dave said, designed to be that way.. I suspect that when they added the remote light, they did something wrong that is causing the problem.
