I've seen a few very old posts about this with no answers. I just tried the combo above and my heater did exit cooldown mode as expected, but the valve remained closed and did not return flow to normal/non-heat mode.
One interesting thing I noticed was the master temp control panel was not locked out when rs485 was enabled as was the case for me under v1.6

My MasterTemp is new rev 2.0..

Anyone else revisit this with new fw to see if it working for them?

Welcome to TFP.

Was your bypass actuator plugged into the MasterTemp PCB or the IntelliCenter board?

Intellivalve was plugged into MT PCB - Enabled heater via IC, valve rotated, heater fired up. Turned heat off via IC, heater cycled thru cool down, valve did not rotate back.

I'm wondering if the heater needs to reach the set point and cycle off on it's own for the valve to return to home position, vs turning off the heater in IC. I may test that tomorrow or this weekend.

With RS-485 the IC sends the desired temperature to the MT and the heater does the temperature control. The IC does not turn off the heater using RS-485 the way it does using the gas heater relay.

yeah I realize this. I would have thought regardless how the heater is shut off, the valve would return to home position after cooldown.
This is one of those that i believe has never worked as intended for anyone. The solution, assuming you have the ports, is to run the bypass from an intellicenter valve header instead of the mastertemp header. For me this works but meant buying a valve expansion board

yeah, pretty much my setup without rs485. I'm ok with it being like this as the pump runs considerably lower kw/h when the valve is in bypass. I'd just like the rs485 communication w/IC. you are probably right and Pentair still doesn't have this correct.

My mastertemp is still setup via rs485 its just that the heater bypass uses a valve header from intellicenter instead of the valve header in the mastertemp
Supposedly there may be a newer mastertemp firmware out in the wild which works but the firmware is not updateable and requires a new MT mainboard
