Is there a valve that will attach directly to the tank? I have a Hayward valve (spo75) but the distance between the inlet and outleton the tank is too large for this valve and the fittings are too small as well. I just have 1 return, 1 skimmer and 1 drain and 1 pipe to waste. I was looking at just a backwash valve with 3 ports, would this work? Any help appreciated.

You can't use just any valves, there are always specific valves for different manufacturers and filters (valves for sand and different valves for DE).
All backwash valves have 3 ports. There are 2 designs: the push/pull which only gives you backwash capability and the multi-port valve (which I would suggest) that gives you more options.
