I dove (NO DIVING - Max Depth 5ft) jumped into pool ownership in Oct 2021 when I bought my house in AZ. I pool stored myself for a year and paid a service for 6 months but have finally found the light that is the TFP method! Truthfully I read a few things here back in 2021 but didn’t read the Basics and was so confused so I avoided advice from here. Now I’m on board and totally understand what is going on in my pool and with water chemistry in general. Also much more familiar with all equipment. You all might enjoy this: I didn’t know about the strainer/“hair and lint pot” on the pump until yesterday. Have kept skimmer and filter clean but had never taken that lid assembly off pump. Woah… full of leaves and a piece of plastic . Replaced that strainer basket today though! Anyways now that I’m learning more I realized how little I know about my in floor cleaning system. I just found out there is a gear in there that needs replaced every few years, pool installer said if the water actuated valve is clicking while pump is on then that gear needs replaced and could mean all cleaner heads are not working properly. Adds up because the heads on my Baja shelf always go first and are strong but I rarely notice the deep end heads popped out. I also feel a lot of dirt settles in deep end corners and doesn’t make it to return. So I think the self cleaning system needs maintenance… I don’t even know if I have a specific question I just want to know what kind of things I should look out for to check to ensure that system is working to its potential. Any insight or advice is appreciated! I can add some pictures tomorrow when it’s light out.

Links below are the equipment I have:
Pentair WAVE Water Actuated Valve
In Floor Cleaning Heads

The Pentair popups you linked to look like the A&A Manufacturing Gamma Series 4 Venturi popups.
Pentair acquired A&A a while back.

How old is the pool?
What are the scheduled times and RPMs for the pump?

Hi and thanks for your reply! I’ve found that the popups I linked are not what I have, apologies for that confusion. I am posting some pictures of the actual pool and system. Appears I have a Blue Square Q360 system. Pool was built in 2013.

Unfortunately I’m not sure on scheduled times, it was set to run at night (off peak) when we bought it and I haven’t changed that. RPMs are 1450, 1500, 2350, and 3050.

Also I am aware the water actuated valve has a leak, the buildup looks bad and I realize I need to get that part fixed. It does make a consistent clicking sound while running.

Blue Square is located in Chandler.
Give them a call or stop by and ask about the clicking noise and leak.

Find the minimum RPM and time span needed for the infloor to work and clean to your satisfaction. Use that as your maximum RPM. Then determine the minimum speed that will skim the pool surface and use that for other run times.

I run my VS pump 24/7 for less than $20/month.
4 hours at 2900 for infloor cleaning and 20 hours at 1200 for skimming.
You don't need to run 24/7. My scheduled RPMs and times work for my pool and may not for yours.

Very helpful @proavia, thank you! I called Blue Square and got inside sales rep Trish on the line and she spent an hour with me adjusting the pump schedule and speeds, I think I’m all set now. Any further questions I now have Trish as a resource to consult. Wonderful customer service from Blue Square! I referred her to TFP and she loved the TFP method and agreed I should stay out of pool stores! Thanks again
