Ideal pump speeds

Welcome!

That depends on what you want the pump to accomplish. If it is to circulate your chemical additions and skim the pool you could use whatever speed is necessary to efficiently skim the surface. How long you pump depends on how much material falls into the pool and your filtration needs. Chemicals (are you dosing with liquid chlorine) only take 30 -45 minutes to circulate.

Your cleaner is a robot, right?

Not sure you needed a VS pump unless you have a spa or water features you did not describe.

Take care.

A two speed pump would save electricity and be far less up front cost and be far more reliable as it does not have the same failure issues of the control panel, etc.

So if you have a basic pool with no features, two speed is the most economical.

2800 for 12 hours seems excessive. I'm in MN so similar weather and I run my VS Pentair at about 1200 RPM most of the time. I raise it (maybe to 2000) when the pool is getting heavy use and then lower it back to 1200 after everyone leaves the pool for the day. At 1200 RPMs I'm only using 100 watts per hour. The pool has been extremely stable for over a month now, the water has been clear and I've added no chemicals to it for that month (I have a Pentair Intellichlor C40). I also have an autocover and that really helps to keep the pool clean, too.

I test the water regularly and the levels have all been very good, stable.

Also, I use 1200 RPM because that seems to be the lowest setting to keep the SWCG working. I run it at 20% most of the time and it seems to maintain the ideal level of chlorine.

We have a salt pool, and run our pump 22 hours per day. 18 of those hours are at 1500 RPM, or roughly 200 watts of power consumption. 4 of the hours are at 3000 RPM to maximize the effectiveness of our In-Floor cleaning system.

Our SWCG is set at 55% (Pentair Intellichlor IC-40).

Your results may vary. We also have Solar Electricity, so not as careful as we could be on power management.
