I pulled off the cover to my skimmer today and discovered it was a block of ice. Below that was the handy dandy gizmos and the bottle of antifreeze way down there - but the water level got high and is frozen. Thoughts?? I have had major health issues in my house this winter and did not keep the water level down with all of the precipitation. Now what?

All you can do is wait for a thaw and if the ice in the pool is all melted then lower the water level.
Chances are there is no damage since the ice in the skimmer can expand up.

The ice can expand upward...this is an issue I’ve thought a lot about. Given that as a truth, why do we need gizmos at all? Or do we?

If you leave water in the skimmer pipe the top may freeze and plug the top of the pipe first. Then water under the pkug will freeza and have no place to expand and crack the pipe.
