Our Pentair IC40 is flashing indicating high salt but my Taylor K-2006 is reading 2800.

I added 10 bags of salt over the course of the weekend as the low salt light was on and this morning is when I got the high salt reading.

Any insights?

A,

400 lbs. of salt should increase your salt level by about 2000 ppm... What was the original salt level before you added any???

The cell only tests salt when first powered on and then every 12 hours. If you turned the cell on, when the salt was not fully dissolved in the water, then it could have just seen a slug of really salty water.. I'd shut of off and try again..

If it continues to report high salt, but your Taylor kit shows a salt level of only 2800, then most likely the thermistor inside the flow switch is bad..

Thanks,

Jim R.

We didn’t have any salt in the pool, we had a leak over the winter that has been repaired so we had a lot of water loss. I was at 2600 and added two additional bags (for a total of 10) to get it up to 2800.

The salt cell is only a year old and the flow switch is showing green.

I’ll try shutting it off and trying again. Thank you.

A,

The flow switch has two parts..

The actual "Flow Switch" which turns on the green flow light..

And... a thermistor that helps the cell adjust the reported salt level.

Thanks,

Jim R.
I just turned off the salt cell and upon turning it back on, it has been flashing green and red on the salt level for the past five minutes.

A,

That is what it should do, as it tests the salt level..

I'm not sure the max amount of time it takes, but usually about 5 minutes.. If it goes over 10 minutes, I'd start to get concerned..

And.. 2800 ppm of salt will turn the salt light green, but just barely.. 2790 is low salt.. 2600 is very low salt.

You really want your salt to be 3200 or above.

Thanks

Jim R.
