My Intellichlor IC20 is blowing fuses, as soon as I turn on power. I recently replaced a pump that was sparking and tripping the breaker. Consequently, power surges. My question is:
Can power surges damage this chlorine generator? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Could the problem be in the power center (it visually looks okay), or is it a damaged cell? I appreciate any information that will help... before I purchase a new (expensive) IC20 cell.

F,

While the cell can blow fuses, the main cause is a bad Power Center..

Disconnect the cell from the Power Center and see if the fuse still blows.

You might also make sure the power center is still getting the voltage it is supposed to get, and that when the pump was replaced, that they did not screw up the power going to the power center.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim. I did disconnect from the power center and the fuse did not blow. This is the 1 1/4 amp fuse at the bottom of the power center that keeps blowing. Even when the system is running and I replace the fuse the cell blinks on then blows the fuse. I believe that the cell is blowing that fuse. However, how would I check whether the power center is good?
Thanks.

F,

The power center supplies the cell with about 40 volts DC... You should be able to use a voltmeter and test between the Red and Black wires going from power center to the cell and if you measure between 35 and 40 VDC, then the power center is most likely good.

Thanks,

Jim R.
