I need to cut out and seal up a spot where Iron is causing a rust mess on the side of my plaster pool.

I have a rust stain caused by something metal trying to get through my plaster. I plan to drain the pool in late March/April and fix it. I also have some nicks and cracks in my plaster (I think from an earth quake). The pool isn't losing measurable water. Is this something that takes a specialist, or can I do it my self. I've got vibrating tools to cut metal, plaster, etc. What kind of pool plaster should I use. I was actually thinking of using un sanded tile grout with admix. I have some repairs around a bottom outlet where the plaster chipped away, things like that.

Ideas?

The plaster is ~ 20+ years old and still in pretty good shape and I'm not planning to replace it, thanks to following TFP's guidelines.

You probably have some rebar rusting. You need to chip out the gunite around the rebar, cut out the rusting pieces, patch the hole it leaves with hydraulic cement, and then patch the plaster over it. Use this for the plaster patches....

I bought some once and it was sandy. Is this smooth? For smooth, once white plaster, which should I buy?
 
I'm using your ideas for the rust patch with hydrolic cement and the plaster you recommended.
I also have some "egg shell" cracks in my plaster that the mfg felt would not be successfully patched with their product. I also have a places around a drain where the plaster has lifted off. Do you know of any epoxy type sealants that might work? (White)
 
If the "egg shell cracks" are just craze cracks in the plaster and not through the plaster I woudl leave them alone. Anything you do will be worse then what you have.

Post pics of the egg shell cracks.

Obviously, the pool isn't drained so I plan to drain in mid April. I plan to do ascorbic acid bleaching, then pump out the pool, fix the little metal "breakout". The cracks may not be worth messing with but I would like to fix some broken out plaster by one on the secondary bottom inlet/outlets. The pool and plaster are nearing 25 years old thanks to TFP and it's predecessors. I'm older than dirt and don't plan on replastering.
