I had a Pentair Superflo VS pump that was only 6 years old that died last summer. I am going to have to purchase another before this coming summer. I live in Central NY and have a 14x26 ft (14,000 gal) in ground chlorine pool. It seems that my pool vacuum that had it's own dedicated line for power with a booster pump, may have contributed to my VS pool pump failure? At any rate, I bought a pool robot that did not require the booster pump. Just plug in & go for 2 hours. But now I need to replace the VS pump. I'm caught between shelling out alot of $ for a Hayward VS or another Pentair VS. Any thoughts? I was a bit surprised that a pump that had only been used for 6 months per year X 6 years crapped out so soon.

Do you have automation?
Do you have 115v or 230v service?

Good pump options:

If you have 230v, then get a Hayward Triton VS 950 or a 3hp Pentair intelliflo3. You might consider a waterway defender 2.7. On the cheap end, Calimar 3.0 is an option.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get a pump with SVRS.

If you have only 115v, then your options are different. Pentair Superflow or Whisperflo, Waterway defender 1.65, Hayward superpump VS 700.

The Whisperflo uses a higher efficiency motor than the Superflo. However, because the Superflo is a smaller pump for the same label HP, it tends to have a better energy factor (gallons/watt-hr). Both are good pumps and I would recommend either one but sizing is important so keep in mind that a 1 HP up rated Superflo has a head curve that much much lower than a 1 HP up rated Whisperflo so they are not equals in terms of performance.

Make sure that you have the proper GFCI size and wire size for the amperage of the pump.
