Liquid Chlorine
Good morning, friends. Please help. I cannot get my chlorine levels to rise. I have been battling for awhile.

Yesterday, I balanced all of my chemicals and ended up adding 1 gallon of liquid chlorine.

After dark (930-ish), I tested and chlorine level was 0. I added another gallon of liquid chlorine.

This am, 11 hours later, I still rehister 0 FC. Here are my chemical levels as of this minute.

FC - 0
TC - 0
Ph - 7.2
Alkalinity - 90
CH - 383
Cya - 73

I also have fresh tablets in my inline chlorine tab feeder.

We are in Texas and it is over 100 degrees. My pool is also in full sun most of the day. I understand that the UV will eat my chlorine, but I added 1 gallon after dark and still register 0 FC/TC this am.

Please help.

Thank you.

If you don't have a good test kit, please get one. Tftestkits.net sells great test kits.

If you are using a good one then 1 gallon of LC is not enough unless its a tiny pool. I'm currently fighting an issue with a CYA similar to yours. At 13,500 gallons I need about 4 gallons to SLAM the pool. The number of 73 is too precise and the cya test is an observation test and is not that exact.

Yes. Those were store test numbers.

Using my test kit, here are my results.

Ph - 7.6
Chlorine - still ZERO (<1)
CYA - 90
Alk - 90
CH - 460

I used my Taylor K-2005 kit this time

Honestly, I will admit. I did not trust myself to test manually. I assumed the pool store machine would be more reliable. Shame on me.

Ok. Now that I have home results, how can I raise this chlorine level.

Thanks, all.

I would replace at least 1/3rd of your pool water. SLAMing is extraordinarily difficult with a CYA above 90. We need to get you to at least 60. Read no drain water exchange here:

I would get an order in for the Taylor or TFTESTkits.net FAS-DPD Chlorine Test. Link-->FAS/DPD Chlorine Test Kit
You need it to SLAM.

Add 5ppm of liquid chlorine per day until the test kit arrives.

When you have your FAS-DPD kit, follow the SLAM process. Link-->SLAM Process

^ what he said.

In your pool you are going to need about 3/4 gallon of liquid chlorine to raise it by 5 every day. Walmart is usually your best bet around us for their Chlorinating Liquid (white bottle). Pinch a penny also has good deals on liquid chlorine in refillable jugs.

Thanks y'all. I have ordered my FAS/DPD Kit, pump, & a large bore garden hose (3/4").

I will shock daily until I can get the water replaced to bring the CYA down. Then we will SLAM.

I will report back with results - or more questions 😁.

I appreciate your assistance.
