I think I finally figured out why my tests seems to keep overshooting my targets. I think I've vastly overestimated the size of my pool. I told PoolMath it has a capacity of 87,000L (23,000galUS). 'Don't know where I got that figure from. But I just took a tape measure to my pool and this is what I found, with the water at the typical level:
Edges: 14' x 28'
Shallow: 2'9"
Deep end: This one's a bit difficult, because the sides curve a lot, making the flat part pretty small. But it's deepest part is around: 6'
If I guess my average depth is 4', then
How Many Litres of Water are in my Pool? | Pool Supplies Canada puts it at
44,691L (11,886gal).
Now if I use
PoolMath, then I put the chlorine addition figures from last night:
Concentration: 10.5%
Volume: 10L
Starting FC: 10.5ppm
Ending (a couple of hours later, maybe 10pm)
FC: 40ppm!
That puts my volume at around
36,000L (9500galUS)
Now, I'm thinking the safest thing to do at this point is tell PoolMath that my pool is 36,000L, my current FC is 15.5ppm (it is) and that my target is 24ppm (it is), in which case it will tell me to add 2.9L of my 10.5% liquid chlorine. Can anyone offer more finely-tuned advice?
BTW, that "10L" addition is based on what the vendor told me: it's a jug w/10L of 10.5% chlorine. I'm going to be eye-balling 2.9L so that means a pretty wide confidence interval for the FC reading I'm going to be making tonight.
