I am stumped - all tests indicate perfection but still have light green cloudy water.

Day 2 of SLAM and it looks much better. Another 2 or 3 days, I think. Sunny and hot here so keeping the solar cover on as much as I can.

You want the cover off for the SLAM so the CC’s can burn off and to avoid getting stuff from the cover into the water and making the SLAM take longer.

I figured the sun would burn off the chlorine too fast to maintain SLAM level. CC is still low at .3 (part of my confusion on the first post).

We can say .5, but the color change is so slight when adding 5 drops of R-0003, then one drop of R-0871 for clear, i figured it is lower.
I’d recommend not waste time trying to interpolate. The actions needed for 0.5CC and 0.0CC are the same (ie nothing is wrong with either) so theres no point in guessing at an inbetween number but no harm either. It just make me have to ask about testing errors or if a pool store test got inserted there.

Day 3 and Day 4 of SLAM. I registered 22.5 ppm FC last night and 22 this morning. .5 CC. It looks a bit green today, but that could be because it is cloudy (yesterday it was sunny). I can see the bottom step better than yesterday, but I am growing impatient for the cloudiness to clear. I cleaned the filter yesterday, brushed, and vacuumed. I've been brushing and vacuuming every day. I'll keep on keeping on!

I'm surprised there wasn't more of an FC drop overnight. Definitely stick with it though. Are you leaving the cover rolled back overnight?

Just in case, have you confirmed your CYA lately to make sure you're at the correct FC level?
Last night, I put the solar cover on to retain heat (my electric bill is killing me). The night before, I left it off and had the same result. The pool liner may be playing tricks on me. It is not bright blue but more aqua. However, you can see from my profile pic what it should look like. There may be some staining since the profile pic was taken, too. I'll check CYA today to be sure it remains at 50 and adjust with Pool Math if necessary. I did find that I had a bad (old) bottle of reagent (R-0871), so I got rid of it, and I'm using the one I just bought. I appreciate your patience with me. I am learning all the time!

Are you running your two speed pump in the slowest setting? No need for full speed and itll save power costs to run slower.

Mostly on full speed I figured it would mix the chlorine faster. Fast is what I'm looking for....patience is what I should have! It is the heater that is really costly. I can't get in it to brush it unless I keep that on. I'll turn it off tonight, put the pump on low, and see how much heat it loses. I'm a wimp!

CYA is still at 50. I tested everything else for grins. pH is 7.8...maybe a little high for SLAM, but told not to worry about that for now. Whatcha think?

This is the link to my pool. PoolMath Logs The FC dropped 4 ppm in 3 hours after taking off the cover.

I am going to buy a new cartridge filter today. I figure it would be good to have an extra on hand. The old one I'll soak in TSP, rinse, and dried it out for future use.

The chlorine will mix in on high-speed or low speed in about the same time which is 15 minutes.

Heating the pool is going to make it go slower because that heat will make the chlorine burn off faster. If you want it to go faster and save money turn the heater off and turn the pump speed down.

I know you are right. I just didn't want to hear it. LOL. I'll give that a try. Thanks!

Have you cleaned the cover real well? Ideally you don’t want the cover on during a SLAM as it can be holding ground for algae and it locks in CC’s.
I understand both heater and cover are important but they also can slow down the process process.
No, I haven't cleaned it. I figured lying in the pool during SLAM would rid it of algae, but I never wiped it down. I'll do that tomorrow. It is supposed to rain so I can spread it out, wipe it down and give it a good rinse before using it again. I'll leave it off until my water is crystal clear.

It's looking better this morning! I'm leaving that darned solar cover off for the rest of the season! Overnight, I lost 1.5 ppm chlorine. I hope I pass the OCLT (legitimately) soon. I'm thinking two more days. Fingers crossed!
