I bought Culligan brand salt at Costco which stated it is 99.6% pure. I dumped a 50 lb bag my 13,000 gallon pool and to my horror as I was getting ready to add a second bag i noticed in the corner it says "with sofner gard II" I did a Google search to see if I could find an MSDS sheet for what is in "sofner gard II" but could not find anything. Does anyone know what is in it, is it a small enough about I can not worry about it or am I about to drain and fill again?

While unfortunate, one bag of anything will likely not be an issue.

Brush it around well.

Water Softening Salt may contain Sodium Hexametaphosphate (SHMP) which improves resistance to mushing and bridging.

SHMP is GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the US Food and Drug Administration.

They would not put anything in water softener salt that would be dangerous to people.

SHMP is used in Diamond Crystal brand Bright & Soft Salt Pellets for water softeners in a concentration of 0.03%. It is the only additive other than sodium chloride.

SODIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE

Probably about 110 ppb Sodium hexametaphosphate added per 40 lb bag.

Nothing to worry about, but it is best to avoid adding any more.

Verify with Culligan.
