Before this year I used pool guys to open the pool and they used some kind of commercial portable pool filter which they would bring and clean the pool. This year I am trying to open the pool by myself, how do I clean all this stuff? Below are couple of ways I was thinking based on researching online,

1) I have a robot vacuum but the amount of stuff I have on the pool floor, I will probably have to clean and change the bag a lot of times. I think the number of times I will have to do is in double digit.
2) I could manually vacuum through the skimmer but see few issues with it,
2.1) Skimmer basket is pretty small and it will keep getting full so I will probably need to empty it a lot of times(more than the vacuum bag). I don't want to bypass the skimmer basket because the debris might clog the plumbing.
2.2) I should probably run the water to waste so small particles which escape skimmer basket don't dirty the filter. The issue here is if I have to keep emptying the skimmer basket, I will need go stop the pump, empty the basket, start the pump again, etc. This seems painful.
2.3) If I don't run the water to waste, I would probably have to deep clean my DE filter.

How do you all do this? What's the most effective way to clean?

Pool size - 22 by 42. Deep end around 12 ft.

Welcome to TFP.

My splurge is paying for an initial cleanup at opening. It is well worth the cost to start with a clean pool and just need to maintain it with my pool brush, net, and Polaris cleaner.
