How to unclog a line???

To my untrained eye, it's as if the water is being pushed through the pump towards the filter, but stopping there.
That's a new development which better answers our questions above about water passing through the basket or just sitting there. What about if you do the same thing above except on recirculate or waste?

Did you unplug the returns??

- prime the pump slowly with low flow hose, if it overflows skimmer line is actually clogged.
If clogged I’m liking the double 90 riser.

How about a video, a clogged line is pretty unique , when it pics up the water coming int to the basket looks like a tube.

As far as I know everything has been unplugged. All returns in pool now have their eyes back on (3 plugs), all plugs were removed from the skimmer (2 plugs). As for the double-90's, I was able to get a plumbing snake (brand new, don't worry) only past the first 90, I was unable to clear the second one.
I will see what I can do about a video...

Same outcome with both "waste" and "recirculate".

I still have the hose dragged all the way out to the pump, so I have been using the hose to fill the basket until everything overflows, and then shutting the lid. My daughter was helping me just now, and flipping the switch for me, and the following happens..

  • Set to "filter".
  • Lid placed on overflowing basket, and locked down.
  • Pump "on".
  • Water rushes through basket, and then trickle from skimmer side.
  • Pump "off".
  • The water comes back into basket, from filter side (because there's nothing coming from the skimmer side).
To my untrained eye, it's as if the water is being pushed through the pump towards the filter, but stopping there.

UT,

Have you done the same test with the multiport in the recirculate position??? (never mind I see you answered that question already...)

Jim R.

1. I like to go for low hanging fruit first so check basket placement.

2- also remove the lid, run pump with a garden hose filling it (lid off) and if the water exits toward the filter suction clog, if not impeller failure or clogged impeller veins.

Lid removed, hose in, and water gets pulled towards filter. I am guessing we are leaning back to a clog between the skimmer and pump, then?

I have now tried this in "waste", "recirculate", and "filter"...all with the same outcome :(

That concerns me. How far away is your equipment pad from the pool? If the tests Jim & PG above don't have any impact, I'd be curious to experiment and run a spare PVC line from the pump straight to the water to see if it works. That's "if" you had some extra PVC laying around since the snake doesn't seem to be cooperating. :hammer:

Update: I played around some more and was able to get the snake to it's full extent...so, the clog is somewhere beyond 25' worth of PVC from the pump. I was unable to get the snake in from the skimmer side this evening (it has started raining, AND I guess I have to eventually get my daughter to bed...)

I placed the DrainJet back in the pump and ran it for about five minutes. During that time, I repeatedly placed a plug in the skimmer hole, remove plug, repeat. Somewhere I read to use a tennis ball, but there was a plug handy. I periodically had some leaf debris pop out. I will see what it's like outside after I get the kiddo to bed.

If I can get back out there, I going to try the snake more from the skimmer side and see what happens...
If I can't get back out there this evening, then I am at a standstill until Sunday afternoon, and if that's the case, then keep the ideas open and flowing my way, and I will compile a list for Sunday...

Have a good weekend.. I’m putting my bet on the double 90.

Btw the tennis ball trick is for increasing suction in
A multiple skimmer branch..

This thread has gotten so long, I can't remember......did we eliminate a plain ole' suction side air leak? That's what the video looks like.
I looked back Dave and actually - no. Suction side leaks was never really addressed. Looking at the pad, the only suspect area would be of course the pump lid O-ring and/or any drain plug O-rings. So those could be checked/lubed at the next opportunity. Maybe run some water over those exposed pipes to see if it makes any difference. Not much on the pad though. So as long as the pool water height is adequate and weir door not stuck impeding flow to suction, the only other item would be the pipe underground.
