Hi,
I recently purchased a home with a pool, and I cannot figure out how to work the mechanical timers that control the filter and the polaris. Google has no info/manual about this control panel, which looks like it belongs on the Millenium Falcon. Let me describe what I see when I open up the control panel (aka power center). On the left side, there is a (broken) toggle switch. The word "filter" is next to it, along with the words "auto", "off", and "manual". It is currently in the "auto" position. Have no idea what this switch does. On the right side, there are two mechanical timers, one above the other. The top one supposedly controls the filter. The bottom controls the polaris. At least that's what the previous owner said to me. He told me that the top timer works, and the bottom one doesn't. To turn the filter on, I also have to flip a 20 amp circuit breaker, which is located in the bottom portion of this control panel.
I can hear BOTH timers ticking away, and they appear to keep time correctly. When I try to set the top filter timer to turn on/off (by pulling out the tiny plastic thingys), nothing happens. The dial just keeps turning and the filter remains on. For now, the only way I know to turn the filter on/off is by manually flipping the breaker on in the morning and off at night.
One day I wondered if I should move the toggle switch from "auto" to "manual", and that maybe that would make the timers work. But the toggle switch would not budge easily, I broke it in the "off" position. I freaked out and eventually was able to push the toggle switch back into the "auto" position (don't know why it was so hard to move).
I took a panel cover off, and the two timers do have yellow wires that appear to go to the side of the panel with this (now) broken toggle switch.
I just want to be able to figure out how to automate the turning on/off of the pool filter, so that I don't have to constantly manually flip the circuit breaker on/off to do that. I've been doing this for about a month now and its getting pretty old! I know I can find mechanical timers online that I can replace the current ones with. But I am not so sure that the timers are broken, since I can hear them ticking.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!
