How to connect pool heater natural gas line to stub up

So i don't know if I'm just not understanding this but how would i connect threaded pipe to this if everything has to be tightened. once i reach the heater how would i connect? do i need to use reverse threads or am i just not thinking about this correctly

Make sure there's a gas shut off close by just before the union. Oh and one more, don't forget a proper drip leg......

Yes, everything was already permitted, the 2 inch line run to the stub up already has an inspection/gas pressure test done. The connection to the pool heater just needs to be made and they come in for a final inspection to see if it was all connected correctly and fully pass it.
