First time pool owner here and am slightly lost/overwhelmed by the types of ways that I'm finding on the internet. Can anyone recommend how to clean out my pool?

Also here is the test strip from earlier today

thanks :)

r,

Welcome to TFP! Yes we can definitely help. We use proven science based methods and mostly generic chemicals available at big box stores to keep pools sparkling at the cheapest price possible. We don't sell anything so you never get conflicted advice. Your pool will undoubtedly need a SLAM or could be so far gone that a refill is the cheapest. Let's start by reading up the following:
Pool Care Basics
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
SLAM Process

To use our techniques you'll need a good reliable test kit. We find test strips to be worthless. We've found a couple kits to be reliable and they each have some pluses and minuses:
Test Kits Compared

Pick one that suits you and get it on order asap! You can't do much 'till you get it. We don't sell them but you can order online or possibly find one at a local store. If you end up in a pool store don't let them talk you into a different one or sell you expensive algae killer potions... they cost a LOT and cause more problems than they solve. I got the TF 100 almost 10 years ago and I'm still using it. I get refill reagents every other year and since I keep the reagents in a cool dark place they last with no trouble.

There are hundreds of thousands of members here because TFP works. The methods are great and easy to learn for average people and you'll also find experts in every aspect of pool care that will help you every step of the way. So get that test kit ordered and ask your questions here. You'll get quick responses and learn a lot while you wait for your kit. When you do post your results and we'll get started. Please post some more photos of your equipment pad and closer up on the pool. While you wait you can also add 4ppm of liquid chlorine. But there's nothing else we can recommend until we get a reliable set of results from the test kit. We have seen many, many pools like yours get sparkling very quickly, so don't worry it can be done although sometimes it has been treated incorrectly for a long time and does need water replaced. There's also no guesswork. Your test results will indicate exactly what to do to get it sparkling.

I hope this is helpful.

Welcome to TFP! Lots of good info above. As a reminder, Taylor industries has test kit rights in Canada, so you might be forced to get a Taylor K-2006C. If you travel south across the border, you certainly can have one of the TF-Series test kits mailed there to pick it up. Just depends on your situation.

While waiting on the proper test kit, consider adding one gallon of liquid pool chlorine to the water each day. It won't resolve all your problems, but may help it from getting worse. Don't add any other products though, just liquid chlorine. If you have added other chemicals in the past, let us know what they were.

Finally, please update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info. The link below should help.

I have added liquid choline ( 3.6 L) the first one was around a week ago and the second one was around four-five days ago
Pools use more chlorine than that in the summer. A pool feeds on chlorine each & every day, but accurate testing is important to know exactly how much. The CYA (stabilizer) level drives the required FC level. For now, add that one gallon each day and get yourself one of those test kits. No guess work. We can coach you through it from there.

Welcome! You've come to the right place!

I'm a new pool owner too. It can be overwhelming, but you can trust me when I say that the expert here have got you covered. You're going to see a lot of info coming at you really fast but the basic premise of the TFP system is that you use pure chemicals not chemical mixes (liquid bleach/chlorine instead of pucks that have stabilizer for example) and you use a premium test kit to get accurate consistent results about what's going on with your water, and once you make those two changes getting things under control is relatively easy.

Don't delay, follow the link provided above to look at test kits and get one appropriate to your pool. They may seem expensive, but you're about to save a whole bunch of time and money on expensive pool chemicals using the TFP method and that all starts with getting accurate test results.
