How to back out of a reply

If I hit reply and then decide not to how do you back out?
Today I hit reply instead of edit and got stuck. Need a cancel button maybe?

I think the Reply button just adds a quote. To back-out all that I do is delete all of the text in the message box. A “clear” option or similar would be quicker though.

That worked, I had tried deleting below the quote but now it makes sense.
