How much salt in pool for new turbocells S3?

So the Hayward S3 range of SWG's claim they require 1/3rd the amount of salt that other brands but I cant find the info of how much salt I should be putting into the pool and what lvl it should be at. Does anyone have this info. The setup screen had to options for setting up the cell and it had a low salt warning of 1200ppm or a standard salt warning below 2700ppm. I'm assuming that if it can generate the same amount of chlorine with less Salt i would be using the 1200ppm setting? I cant find on their website how to set any of this up and how much salt should be in my pool.pool 7.jpg

The AQR S3 Omni can generate chlorine using a range of salt concentrations from between 2700 – 3400 PPM (Standard Salt mode) or 1200-1800 PPM (Low Salt mode).

The operating salt level is between 2700 – 3400 PPM when in Standard Salt mode or 1200-1800 PPM when in Low Salt mode (see page 30).

Select Salt Monitoring Level - Select Standard Salt or Low Salt.

If running the system using a low salt level (1200 PPM-1800 PPM, 1500 PPM optimal) select Low Salt.

If running the system using standard salt level (2700 PPM - 3400 PPM, 3200 PPM optimal), select Standard Salt.

The TCELLS340 generates up to 1.45 lbs. of chlorine per day at high salt or up to 0.725 lbs at low salt levels.

The TCELLS325 generates up to 0.98 lbs. of chlorine per day at high salt or up to 0.49 lbs at low salt levels.

The TCELLS315 generates up to 0.53 lbs. of chlorine per day at high salt or up to 0.265 lbs at low salt levels.
 
Low salt alm (2700 ppm default, 1000 ppm min) - when the salt level is lower than this adjustable value, the AquaRite S3 will show a warning.

The selection can never be adjusted higher than 100 ppm under than the High salt alarm value.

High salt alm (3400 ppm default, 8000 ppm max) - when the salt level is higher than this adjustable value, the AquaRite S3 will show a warning.

The selection can never be adjusted lower than 100 ppm over the Low salt alarm value.

Ok that's awesome so i have a 8200 gallon pool and the S315 model was designed to be enough for my pool at .053 per day on high salt so the S340 model on low salt can produce more salt than required and worse case i got higher with salt. Would prefer less salt running in the system if possible. Now i need to read up about how much salt to put in the pool. Thanks

Is this a new pool, or has it been used already for a while using liquid chlorine?

Keep in mind that any form of manually added chlorine turns into salt after the chlorine has done its job.

You already might have some salt in the pool. To avoid adding too much, it is important to test the current salt level before adding salt.

You'll need the Taylor K-1766 salt test for that. And the required amount of salt to be added you can calculate with PoolMath.

Do you already have a good test kit for all the other tests? Have a look at TESTKITS][/TESTKITS].

If you need a complete kit anyway, I'd suggest to order the TF-PRO SALT from Tftestkits that already includes the salt test and also a smartstir, which makes testing so much easier.

The system says that it comes with the S340 cell.

Did they give you the right cell?

The S315 at low salt will produce 3.9 ppm per day, but only if you run the pump 24 hours a day.

The S340 will produce 11 ppm per day (24/7) at low salt or 22 ppm per day at higher salt.

With a VS pump, you can run 24/7 at low cost, but I would still want an S340, which is probably what you were supposed to get with your package.

So, that would imply that you could even double the salinity from 3,200 ppm to 6,400 ppm and get double the output from a cell.

In any case, I would use the lower salinity if possible with the S340 cell.

Are the salinity warning levels adjustable?

The system looks like it was possible to be partnered with any cell but this specific package of the Omni pl and the S340 was a “standard” packaged kit. I think you may have to buy them as separate units to get another combo of Omni pl and another type of cell. The PB said he always uses the hoarder cells on all pools this size.

That’s not something I have looked at in detail yet.

Yes a new pool. I have the Clorox salt test strips and it’s showing zero currently. I have ordered a Taylor test kit but I think the one I ordered does not have the salt test parts. Im currently signing up on the pool math app. It looks like it could be a handy tool to have whilst I look after the pool.

You can order the Taylor K-1766 salt kit separately as a stand alone kit. It is pretty much the only way to reliably test for salt.

And yes, PoolMath is really handy, great tool.
