How do you remove motor from Hayward SP2300VSP Max-Flo VS pump?

A bit concerned, I pressed start and the unit began to run the factory programmed settings…

Speed 3100, duration 4 hours…

It’s been running a good 20 minutes, but I don’t see water coming into the pump or flowing out of lines in the pool. I only get occasional bubbles coming out of 1 line, but nothing out of the rest. 🤔

Any ideas?

Does water leak out of the bottom of the pump when you add water to the basket area?

Maybe the impeller threads were damaged when you initially tried to remove the motor?

The impeller acts like a big nut holding the motor to the seal plate, and the threads got stressed and maybe stripped.

Maybe the seal was installed incorrectly?

I’ll have to double-check tomorrow, not enough light out there, at this time.

🤷‍♂️ It seemed to come off and go back on without issue.

Maybe the seal was installed incorrectly?
Do you mean the big blue o-ring pictured below that the arrow is pointing to, which I replaced?

If yes, it wasn’t a difficult replacement, and would I see a leak if it were installed incorrectly?

Maybe the impeller is damaged or maybe the seal was installed incorrectly.

Different pumps have different seals and the seals install differently on different pumps.

The videos were for different pumps, so some of the process is the same, but the seal installation might be different.

I would take it back apart, check the impeller and replace the seal.

Did you take pictures of the seal orientation during disassembly?

Thanks!

Yeah, from what you were saying, I figured either impeller or seal, although both seemed to have no issues. But I’ll take it apart again and check both.

I noticed how different the process for my pump from the video not to far into the process.

Unfortunately, no pics of the seal orientation, but I referred more to memory as well as the steps that you provided from the Hayward manual.

Ok, back at it…

At this point, I’m stumped.

I took it apart again and checked both the impeller & seal and both appear to be in good condition; no cracks, chips or threads stripped.

Thoughts?

It looks like the wrong seal.

The seal should look like this:
