How do I know if my heater is working?

I have a heat pump attached to the pool but the temperature slowly comes up I think but not sure if its working well. How can I check if its really working?

I have an infared temp laser but the fan is in the shade its tough to tell if there is a 10 degree diff.
 
How many BTUs is your Aquacal HP?

Your HP is going to raise the water temp by 1/2 to less then 1 degree an hour depending on the air temperature. If the temperature is slowly coming up then it is working fine. They either work fine or don't work at all.
