Our Pentair Purex Triton Minimax plus 400 pool/sp heater is quick-firing. It ignites just fine and the flame is the correct color but it only runs for about 1 minute, clicks off (red service light comes on), re-ignites (service light off) and continues this cycle. So we had our guy out this morning to take a look at it.

He advised us that with how old the unit is, how hard parts are to find, and the probability that other things are going to start going wrong we should think about replacing the whole unit soon...We can't afford to replace it after resurfacing the pool last year, and just having to replace the LED lights last week.:pale:

He said if we are able to track down a new High-Limit Sensor & Thermistor he can replace them to see if that will fix the issue. I see that the unit is discontinued by Pentair but I haven't had any issues finding parts online but...

I notice that there are 2 different models of this unit (Millivolt Models & IID). I cannot for the life of me figure out how to determine which model we have so that I get the correct thermistor...anyone know how I go about that?

A millivolt units means it has no external power coming into it. Power to run it is done via the thermopile that generates the voltage. Pilot light is always lit on this unit also.

BTW, if the unit lights and goes out shortly there after, sounds like it's having a problem sensing the flame.

You should have a tag on the unit inside when you remove the front cover. It will tell you what you need to know about the model of the unit.

While the person that came it is true, hopefully you can get one more season out of it.
