I have a extra electric hot water heater and was thinking about hooking it up to my pool. Would it work and if so how would I hook it up? I live in Florida so I would not be using it all year. Just trying to get a few extra month of use out of it. If it is a little warmer then the Wife will be Happier. Thanks for any help.

I doubt it will work but the devil is in the details....

How many gallons in your pool?

What type of pool?

Your pool covered?

What type of electric water heater?

How many BTUs or watts for the heater?

What size plumbing does the heater take?

I think the math is against you. People take showers at most 2-3gallons/min. Your pool pump is at >10 gals per min thus your HW heater could never keep up to the incoming cold water to heat it sufficiently to really do any good. This assumes your pipework and HWH can handle this flowrate. Your HWH is maybe 100 gals and your spa is 500 gals (just using estimates). Not sure the HWH can rapidly heat the water to make a difference.
