Hot tub with 50amp breaker and Automation

Why? You really don't turn hot tubs on/off except for maintenance.. They basically run 24/7.

What are you trying to control with your relay?

I thought I could control when the hot tub starts up to get it to start heating up the tub.

So how do people via home automation get the hot tub to heat up to a desired temp before going in?

I thought when the hot tub was not in use, you would lower the temp.

Sorry. I am a total newbie.

Most hot tubs have covers and use very little power to maintain their temperature.. The cost is initially bringing them up to temperature.

I assume we are talking about a standalone hot tub or Spa that you buy that is fully assembled. If you are talking about an in-ground gunite spa that uses a gas heater, then that is a different issue all together..

Please let me know what kind of Spa you are planning on having..

I’m not familiar with all the possible z-wave relay offerings but you can operate a regular 50A relay with a small (and hopefully much less expensive) z-wave control relay if it exists and a bit of extra wiring (using proper enclosures and such, of course).

I've got a arctic Klondike above ground spa and it is running 24/7 at 39c. Only exception is long vacations when I lower to 25c. You need the power on to keep circulation for disaffection, in my case chlorine, and frost prevention. Total electricity cost about $40 each month.
