Replacing an existing 18 year old outdoor hot tub wired by an electrician. Have discovered that from outdoor 240 V 50A GFCI disconnect - 6awg simplex with 8awg uninsulated ground was run in above ground secured 1" PVC coupled to 3/4" liquid tight Flex pv c - then into the tub controller. Same Simplex runs from main panel to the GFCI disconnect as well within the house.

As I prepare to receive a new tub. I am concerned that the GFCI to tub run does not meet code.

Wire should be THHN/THWN rated.

Ground wire does not need to be insulated.

Have you asked the electrician what he did?

Had an electrician review the existing wiring. because all is enclosed in NM conduit and above ground he says it meets code in my jurisdiction. He says insulated ground is prefered but not mandatory. Tested the connections and gfci -- good to go. Thanks to all for your replies.
