Hot tub draining into pool

New pool owner here, about 3 months old. I've have all Hayward equipment. I have a separate circulation pump, water features pump for water bowls and bubblers and a spa jet pump.

My hot tub drains into the pool when the motor is off, the water falls to the spa jets. It drained water and pushes excess pool water into the overfill. Once the the circulation moter kicks on the hot tub refills from the pool and my auto-fill starts to fill backup the pool.

I contacted my plumber and he sent someone over to replace the check valve that between the pool and spa return, but no change. I'm at a loss of other ideas. Any help would be great!

90% of the time, the spa return check valve is the problem..

Could be they used a generic replacement flapper or there is glue in the area where the flapper should seal...

On the pool return line there is a manual valve that appears to have a label marked as "Spillover Adjustment".. Maybe I just can't see it in the pic, but when that valve is closed, it appears to me that you would have zero water going to your pool returns... And, I can't see how that would control the amount of spillover at all???

Do you have that valve closed on purpose? If so, with the valve closed, do you have any water going to your pool wall returns?
