Hose filter for filling pool?

Are there any garden hose filters that work well for refilling pools? In particular ones that can keep CH as low as possible? This is the only one I could find that claims it will soften the water...

But it doesn't say how many gallons it will filter, so I wonder if it's even worth it for a 10,000g+ pool?

No. A water softener is needed to remove calcium from the fill water.

But assuming I don't have a water softener... if my CH is off the charts high (1000+) and the water coming from my tap is already high (250+) what am I supposed to do?

The only option aside from water softener is drain every couple of years or have the pool treated with reverse osmosis which is very expensive.
