We recently had our pool surfaced as part of new construction using universal cement finest finish. We noticed tonight with the pool lights on that there are small holes, divots, low spots around the bubbler some creases or long marks in the pebble. Attaching photos here.

Is this fixable by our PB?

No, the poor workmanship and quality of your plaster job is not fixable after it is done.

Those flaws exist in many plaster jobs. They are cosmetic and make no difference in the function and enjoyment of your pool. It is a pool and not a work of art.

Should I just accept it as is or say something to the PB for a poor quality install? Would you ask for compensation?

You can say something and he will probably be nice and polite to you. Nothing surprising with your issues and he has seen it before. It is always interesting how they handle these complaints. If they really cared they would have someone on sit overseeing the contractor doing quality control and pointing out the defects during the plastering process when they can be fixed.

He may offer to do an acid wash which you should decline. An acid wash will not fill in the pit caused by the spikes they use on their shoes to walks on the wet plaster and it will not smooth the uneven areas around your bubbler. The acid wash will etch the palster and take off a layer of it that may lighten the footprints,

Would you ask for compensation?

I would not bother. How have you been damaged to require compensation?

Were there any quality standards in your contract they agreed to and did not meet?

In contracts with an educated buyer, often commercial, where quality specifications are included in the contract damages would be described if the contractor fails to meet the standards. I think if you ask for that in a residential pool most contractors will decline the work or double the price.

The problems you identify are cosmetic and unfortunately well within "normal industry standards". They delivered what you hired them for.

I had a spike hole and a divot in my pebble. I noticed it as we were filling the pool. I immediately stopped filling it and called them. They told us it could be fixed with the pool filled so we continued to fill it. A couple days later, they sent someone with a wetsuit (it was spring and the water was still very cold) and fixed it while I was at work. I've looked for them a couple times and have not been able to find the spots so they obviously did a good job. No idea how it would differ from plaster. 🤷‍♂️

I sent a video to my PB. He said he’s never seen this happen before and they’ve done lots of pools. They’re going to reach out the surface company and see what can be done.
