I have a Dolphin Premier Robotic Pool Cleaner. Now I'm in the process of shocking the pool before winter closure. What is the highest free chlorine level I can run the robot? Tha manual says 4ppm is the max. I am wondering if people go above that.

What does “shocking the pool” mean? Chlorine up to SLAM level for whatever your CYA measured is fine for people and equipment.

Depends on your CYA. FC up to 40% of your CYA (which is SLAM level for your CYA) is safe for people and equipment.

If your CYA is 40, then FC 16 is your max. 40x40%...

P,

I had a Dolphin Premier and it lasted for over 7 years... My FC is usually 7 to 10 ppm in a saltwater pool, and I'm sure I have overshot the 10 plenty of times.

You should expect the color to fad, but the color of my robots is not an issue for me...

Thanks,

Jim R.

"manual"?? We don't need no stankin' manual! We've got *SCIENCE* behind our methods....

My CYA is 10 and I'm keeping FC around 10 with pump running and myself brushing the walls. Dropped the ball the last week and had visible algae in a pool. Now the water is a bit murky.
You should not exceed 4ppm of FC with CYA of 10. How are you measuring CYA of 10?

If you don't have one, get a good test kit. Link-->Test Kits Compared

If you have one, I would add at least 20ppm of Chlorine Stabilizer to the pool. ASAP.

If you need to clear a pool, you should follow this process...Link-->SLAM Process

As mentioned above, if that 10 came from a pool store or a test strip, and don’t trust it. Only use the tailor kits to measure the CYA.
