High Total Chlorine

Just got my tests from the Leslie's and noticed only one thing wrong:
Free chlorine - 0.18
Total chlorine - 1.59

They are suggesting adding any form of chlorine probably around 2 gallons. But I want to check with the experts here as to what I should do?

Also trying to find out the cause for this situation to happen in the first place. Since the beginning of the season, I have been mostly adding Calcium hypochlorite on a weekly basis and also have floating tablets which are trichloro-s-triazinetrione. But recently I did use some sodium hypochlorite. Would the mixing cause it?

Hi there. Deciding to adopt trouble free pool care would be very helpful for you. Perhaps read through these links and then decide:
Pool Care Basics

Most of us here have been bamboozled by pool stores and converted to reliable methods based on self-testing. TFPC is also the cheapest and easiest way to operate a swimming pool.

If we can believe pool store testing - which we put very little faith in. The problem is that your FC is too low. You do not say what your CYA is but we follow FC/CYA Levels

We believe that liquid chlorine - sodium hypochlorite - is best unless you go with a saltwater system.

You may have the start of algae. Suggest you purchase a proper test kit and take control of testing.

I see *2* things wrong. :poke:

Check this link first. Then go read how we do it with all the above links. We'd love to show you how to do it too.

How Clear is TFP Clear?

I hope you’ll stick around and learn from this community. After a learning curve, the methods taught here are cheaper and way more effective than the pool store/pool maintenance company methods.

In the 4 years I’ve been on this site, I’ve seen these types of posts over and over again. They only go one of two ways. One, the OP never responds. The other way is they stick through the learning curve and come out the other side with more time & money as well as a safe and sparkling clear pool. I have NEVER seen anyone stick with the TFP method and be unhappy. Not. One. Time.

My CYA is 33. Pretty confident about this number.
