I can’t seem to lower my pH no matter how many times I add muriatic acid and how much I use. My chlorine is high as a result of an earlier slam. It’s definitely taking its time going down. My SWG is at 25 percent. Is the chlorine being that high causing a higher pH?IMG_7809.png

You cannot get an accurate pH reading with FC over 10. You can let it drift down to below 10 so you can get an accurate pH test, but typically it reports higher than actual when your chlorine is high, and a pH of 7.9 is nothing to worry about so I would leave it be and focus on your SLAM.

Thank you for that info. But for some reason I am also having trouble lowering my chlorine level. By the way, my SLAM was successful. I have no overnight loss of chlorine and my CC is .5 or less. After it rains I check the chlorine expecting that it had gone down, and it has gone up. I have my SWG down to 25 percent. I have never had it that low. I am baffled. Do I lower the SWG percentage even further? I can’t think of any other reason for it to be going up. Thanks again.

The salt level in my pool is going down below the level at which the SWG works. That is okay since I’m getting ready to close the pool. So my chlorine level is now 9.5. The pH and alkalinity have also dropped. My concern is the CSI. Pool Math is telling me it’s -.42
Turn the SWG off for a day and see what happens.

but the Taylor Watergram is telling me it’s 0.0. Which one do I go by?

Your CSI is going lower as your water cools off.
You can raise the TA if you wish. I am not sure how necessary that is for a pool soon to be closed.
Let's ask @ajw22 as he closes his plaster finish pool.

Don't worry about the negative CSI with a closed pool. All pools go through it can survive.

The fact is the water chemistry changes while the pool is closed and the pump is not circulating the water. The water stratifies into layers in the pool with each layer having different chemistry. The pH in the water will rise while it is closed and will raise the CSI. And the pH of the water next to the plaster will be higher then elsewhere in the pool with no circulation. So the actual CSI of the water next to the plaster while the pool is closed will not be as negative as you calculate.

We use PoolMath. What is your PH, TA, CYA and CH right now?
I’m sorry. I forgot to send it. Here it is. IMG_7815.png

Do you use an algaecide in your pool when you close it?

How long before closing do you use the Polyquat?

After the addition of Polyquat 60, it’s important to keep the circulation pump on for at least 24 hours to make sure that the algaecide is thoroughly distributed throughout the pool.
