9000 gal above ground salt water pool. CYA 80. TA 90 Salt 3600 Ph 7.8 (lowered to 7.5 w/muriotic acid) FC 5 (trying to maintain 6-8ppm). Replaced the SWG cell last season rated to 20K gallons. DA bump style filter. The pump runs 24/7 at 55% and then bumps up to 90% when heat is in use. I use a heat pump to maintain 85 degrees. I have my SWG set to run 12 hours at 70% and I can’t maintain FC. Ph keeps creeping up and I’m not aerating. Once I lower the Ph and set the SWG to 100% I can bring the FC back to where I want it. Heavy pollen in the pool the last few weeks. No algae blooms water is crystal clear. Am I missing something?

What is the brand and model of SWCG? We troubleshoot from there.

You should raise FC with liquid chlorine and maintain with SWCG. SWCG not so good at raising FC.

There is no information on the output of that SWCG, that I can find, so I can't figure out how much chlorine it can generate. It is a bargain unit. You need to run it X hours at Y% output to maintain FC. You will need to adjust run time and %output to maintain your FC.

Your pH rise is due to your TA. What is your TA and how are you testing?

TA is 90. I use the chemical kit from Tftestkits TF-100

High TA, and low pH cause pH rise. A TA of 90 isn't all that high. When you lower pH with acid, you also lower TA. Over time your TA will come down. When you get to about 80, don't lower your pH below 7.8. You pH rise should stabilize around 7.8 when your TA is 60-80.

What quality salt system would you recommend?

For AGP? Let's get @Mdragger88 and @zea3 on the case.

So i determined that a high ph affected chlorine production. After a heavy rain after I lowered it, the ph dropped to 7.2. Chlorine production and levels jumped to normal levels. Now im able to maintain chlorine levels in the pool. So ill maintain a ph of 7.4. Thanks for the help.
