High pH and CYA

Good morning- I am officially off my grace period from our PB and doing the chemistry myself. The pool is less than 2 months old but I thought the numbers would’ve stabilized by now.

FC 2.6
CC 0.4
PH 8.0
TA 110
CH 200
CYA 90

Seems like the pH and CYA are pretty high. I was going to add muriatic acid to lower the pH but am curious how that will impact the CYA reading (if at all)?

Also does my signature appear in my post? If not we have a 25,000 gal chlorine pool/spa.

Thanks in advance!

Understand that your CYA is on the high side and will require you to keep your FC at a higher level to avoid an algae bloom. Your target FC range is 10-12ppm and your shock level is 35ppm with a CYA of 90.....Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart

Lower your pH and try to keep it below 7.8, With a TA of 110 your pH will want to move up so do not expect to drive it below 7.6 for very long until your TA drops over time. Test your fill water. My fill water is TA 140 so my pH drifts up when I begin to add water and it is easy to keep at 7.8 with periodic small additions of pool acid.

I'm new at this but in the same boat...high CYA level. Keep in mind the pH test is not accurate at FC levels above 10 ppm. It will be tough to maintain proper pH levels. With a salt water system, your min and max recommended FC levels will drop below the 10 ppm mark. Double/triple check your CYA readings and consider a drain or a SWG system.

FWIW,

Mike.
