Keep your FC at the high end of the range... the heat will burn of more than usual. so a loss of 5.5 to 6.5 in this heat would be expected. You can easily expect 4-5 loss a day is quite normal
Honestly I think your FC consumption is a little high; however your LC is a bit old. I run about 3.5 to 4.0 in Chandler. Have you done an OCLT recently to see if you have some algae? Also does your pool have heavy swimmer load? If so that may explain the higher FC demand. So I should no worry much 5.5 to 6.5 ppm may be okay with this heat?
This is my first year using CL. Thanks
Overnight Chlorine Loss TestI am not sure what is an OCLT?
Yes I am familiar with it, I just forgot the acronym. I used it during slam to know when I was done. I'll check tonight.OCLT stands for overnight chlorine loss test. You basically raise your chlorine to the upper range and test it after the sun goes down. You then get up and test it again before the sun comes up in the morning. If you have a FC loss of less than 1 ppm, you pass the test. If not, it means that something other than the sun's ultraviolet rays are consuming your chlorine. With the amount of FC loss you're experiencing, I would bet that there's something else in your water eating your FC.
Yes, I followed the chart for regular FC level, my CYA is 60 and I was before my trip keeping my FC to 8. However now I am bringing it up to 9.5 every night. You should be following this chart FC/CYA Levels.. What is your CYA currently?
The OCLT is Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
I store the bleach in the garage and yes it is a little old since I could not find anything better at lowes or HD, it's 20147.
Is this too old?
Where do you get your bleach? I get mine from lowes at $8 for 2 gal.
Is there any value to pour the bleach sooner and have it longer in the pool in the evening before sunrise?
