High CYA

I have a plaster in-ground pool with high CYA levels that, as I understand it, is rendering the chlorine ineffective. I understand that to get the CYA level down I have to remove and replace water from the pool. My question is where does the CYA concentrate? Do I remove the top 2 feet of water with the pump on a ledge, or the bottom 2' of water with the pump on the bottom?

gkc,

Welcome to TFP... A great place to find the answers to all of your "Highly Concentrated" questions... :shark:

In theory, your CYA should be exactly the same level throughout your pool.. Draining half your water, will drain away half of your CYA.

You don't say, but how high is your current CYA level? Assuming that you do not have a saltwater pool, we normally recommend an CYA level of about 30 ppm, but being in the hot and sunny DFW area, a CYA of about 40 to 50 ppm works best.

Thanks,

Jim R.
