High cya even after draining pool down to 18 inches

Hi,
I've been struggling with my pool's water chemistry for a week or so. The ph was always super low and when I added the recommended amount of Borax it just got really cloudy and the ph didn't change. Also, we haven't been able to keep the chlorine level up. We had been using chlorine pucks but have taken them out of the pool since I started testing CYA and found that ours was extremely high...200+ I would guess since the tester only goes to 100. We drained the pool way down two days ago and added fresh water in. The water was still cloudy and the CYA still off the charts. The pH had normalized, however.
Last night we poured in two gallons liquid pool chlorine and circulated all night. This morning the pool is green and the readings are as follows:

Chlorine- so high that 60 drops R-0871 didn't change the color
pH-7.6
TA-150
CYA- 100+

18 inches of water is at most maybe 25% of your water? Depends on the shape of the bottom of your pool. So it will take alot more water exchange to drop your CYA to the 40 or 50 that you want it at.

Do the diluted CYA test - step 8 in Pool School - CYA

I would continue to add a gallon of bleach or so each day and continue to do water exchanges. Not sure where North Fork is (state,country?).

You have a vinyl liner, so you can drain until you have 1' of water in the shallow end.

Once you get your diluted CYA test done, you can guesstimate how many drain / refills it will take to get your CYA under control.

If so - took a great chance of damaging the liner. But if done it is done.

And if so, the CYA is still above 100 -- WOW!.

My post still stands. If your CYA is showing over 100, a diluted test is needed and additional drain / refills are necessary.

See the chlorine/CYA charts in my signature to realize that your FC would need to be way higher than 30 to SLAM with a CYA above 100. I would keep draining and refilling like mknauss said to get your CYA down to a reasonable level. I would also order more reagents from TFTestkits.net for your k2006 before you run out.

Sockmonkey, one thing I want to confirm is your testing. You are saying that when you do the CYA test the dot disappears before it ever reaches the 100 line, correct?

Ha! Good catch - I read 'vinyl' and skipped right past the 'above ground'!!!!
